This year I got to experience something unique. My very best friend Sarah, of Sarah Alleman Photography, and I hosted a day of family sessions for victims of the great flood in Louisiana. We spent the day not only photographing, but getting to know these families and hear their stories. Stories of homes lost and large families squeezed into tiny trailers. These families impressed me so much and not just the parents. The kids were exhuberent and filled with smiles, despite their rocky living situations. This day was a lesson for me about what this time of year is really about. As we shop and hunt for deals this weekend, let's also remember that the most important deal we will get is the opportunity to spend time together.
